This course discusses dementia's wide-reaching effects and teaches about the many ways dementia impacts someone’s life and strategies for how to live better with dementia. 1.25 continuing education credits (general course) available.

About this Course

1.25 continuing education credits (general course) available  This general course will provide an overview of dementia related illnesses and the impact dementia can have on the individual in terms of health, wellness, and relationships. This course will aim to highlight the importance of building relationships and effective communication when addressing concerns for someone who may be showing symptoms of dementia and proactively meet their needs to ensure a high quality of life is maintained. Through this course, we will explore how families are affected as well as communities. We will then explore strategies in which everyone can contribute to creating a dementia-friendly society.
  • Define dementia, the risk factors and how to support healthy living.
  • Explain how to develop a therapeutic relationship.
  • Utilize communication strategies to share concerns with someone who is showing signs of dementia.
  • Describe how dementia impacts families, communities and society.
  • List the ways in which individuals and communities can contribute to creating a dementia-friendly society.
1.25 CE credits available for social workers licensed in an ASWB accredited state, as well as New York State licensed social workers. (Please note: New Jersey is not currently covered under our ASWB accreditation, please check back soon). The Alzheimer's Foundation of America  #1898, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit.  ACE provider approval period: 7/25/2023 – 7/25/2024. Social workers completing this course receive 1.25 general continuing education credits.
